Re: What is the best ak 47 to buy?
I think the best way to look at this question is, what AK's can you find to buy? All will work, some are just built a little better is all. I think most around here have the mindset that ANY AK is better then none. If you can find a top shelf AK for sale, be prepared to pay through the nose for it, for now anyhow.

Probably the best AK from the same era was the Yugoslavian. I think the few that made it here circa 1986 were all full stock(not thumbhole BS), and they were big rifles made for full sized adults. The stock was not stubby and the pistol grip and front handgrip were fat and long, the wood very blonde looking. The cooling vents on the top of the handgrips on that rifle had 3 notches, thats rare among AK's of any stripe. If you just want a bullet hose any AK will do just fine.If you want a fairly rare or collectable pre ban AK do your homework so you don't get screwed. |

Good luck finding any AK-type weapon right now. There don't seem to be a whole lot on the shelf and if there are, they are super-expensive.

Re: What is the best ak 47 to buy?
Arsenal manufactures new AK47s in Las Vegas with Bulgarian imported personnel as well as some machinery. They make plenty of milled variants but are pricey. They are the best AK47s imo. www.arsenalinc.com
As for AK74s I like the Polish Tantals and the Bulgarian builds. |

If you are anyway near Phoenix, there's a couple worth calling on.

Re: What is the best ak 47 to buy?
If i were you i would purchase a polish tantal which fires the 5.45x39
Good price! http://www.classicarms.us/ and you can purchase the ammo dirt cheap here http://www.southernohiogun.com/ammo.htm You can blast this AK all day long and it won't cost you an arm and a leg. I've been loading up on the 5.45 ammo while it's still dirt cheap |
Re: What is the best ak 47 to buy?
My Polish Tantal is very nice. They are still cheap and very cheap to shoot.
I bought 2160rnds of Russian surplus steel core ammo for $300 plus shipping. They had Bulgarian 5.45x39 for $130 per 1060rnds a while back. |

I tried to order some from SOG a month ago and I got a reply from their order dept that it had been out of stock for 6 months. They never update their site and their customer service sucks. |
Re: What is the best ak 47 to buy?

Re: What is the best ak 47 to buy?
Yugo Ak47's are very nice. The reciever is thicker than the wasrs and most others. Century has been ,in the recent past, building them with new green mountain barrels. I have a couple extra underfolder models and went to a gun show to see what they were actually selling for on the street. I had the rifle on my shoulder and a guy came up and told me he bought 2 of them last weekend for $750 each.
Alot of people came up to me and I told them I would possibly sell it for $750 and they gave me thier # and said to call if I decide to sell. I talked to the guy who actually sold the 2 last weekend and he said he had one left and sold it this weekend for $795! http://gunbroker.com/Auction/SearchResults.asp |

Re: What is the best ak 47 to buy?
A Saiga might work for you. They're brand new from the same factory that makes AKs. You might have to do the conversion dance but from what I hear, is well worth it.
